Libertarians vs. Liberals

I want to discuss the key difference between Liberal and Libertarians. There are some similarities as well.

Liberals advocate freedom of expression, the defense of civil rights, and personal freedom. In that respect they and Libertarians are alike. They differ in the fact that Liberals want government to take care of the disadvantaged and the poor. Seems moral enough right? Well, it's not. The reason it's not moral is because government gets it's funds from our tax dollars. Therefore, whether you like it or not, you are FORCED to take care of other people. Government seizes part of your income, the money that you earned, and you never see that money again. Government now spreads this money around to various programs and also uses this money to give welfare checks to the disadvantaged and the poor. You are forced to provide charity. If you don't pay this income tax you will go to jail. This is a form of socialism and liberals want this.

The fundamental problem that I have with this is why should a government or certain group of people force me to take care of anyone or to sponser programs that I don't agree with? If Liberals want to help out the disadvantaged and the poor, why can't they do that through private charity? If the income tax was abolished, then they would have that extra HUGE sum of money to donate to whatever charity, person, or program they so wish to donate to or they could even create their own charity! I also believe that many Libertarians (including myself) would greatly donate to charities and good causes. As a matter of fact I might would even set aside a fund to donate to the homeless or maybe even to a group to help out alchoholics to get them back onto their feet.

Through taxing and welfare we have no say whatsoever as to whom or what the money goes to. It could go to a hard working woman who is struggling to make ends meet and feed her children, or it could go to a low life who is lazy and is enjoying having the rest of the workers and business owners of America take care of him while he sits at home drinking his 12 pack of beer and smokes his carton of cigarettes. It is a restriction on liberty and freedom folks! Pure and simple! Government works through force!

Government taking care of people just doesn't work because people becoming reliant on "Big Brother" to take care of them. It's like a relationship between a dog and his master. The dog can't survive in the wild because they become used to their owner feeding them, walking them, and nurturing them. They become domesticated and the same thing can be applied to government taking care of people. They don't want freedom because doing things yourself and being responsible for yourself becomes a scary thing to bear. It's easy to give up liberty in order for someone to watch over you like a proud parent.

I understand that people make wrong choices, and life becomes hard. I also believe that there many decent people in this world that would help out their fellow human beings and countrymen through troubled times, and that's what charity is for! Studies have shown that charities have done more for people than government ever has.

Now this may sound like I'm a conservative, but I'm not. The conservatives will keep the income tax, whereas Libertarians would abolish the income tax. The conservatives will also use that money to provide their own version of welfare, and that's called "corporate welfare" and they will use words such as subsidies and internal improvements to disguise that fact. Libertarians wouldn't stand for that! So now you can send that money that government is seizeing to a private charity of your choice, and I would bet that more and more charities would spring up all over this nation.

In closing, I believe in our personal rights and freedoms. Libertarians and Liberals share that idea, but Liberals want to take away the fundamental right of freedom of choice whenever it comes to taking care of others. The freedom to choose who you donate too or what you donate too, or if you want to donate any money at all. I beleive the money that you earn is your money to keep, and no state should forcfully take your money from you. If a private citizen did that to a fellow citizen that would be theft, and they would be imprisoned for it. For some reason, some people believe it's okay for government to overstep the boundaries of law and natural unalienable rights. Maybe government should be locked up, becuase if anyone needs restrictions on liberty that someone would be government.
